On May 24, 1859, Caroline Miolan-Carvalho created an Ave Maria for which Pierre Zimmerman set the Latin words of the prayer Je vous salue Marie to a melody improvised by Charles Gounod as an overlay to the first Prelude in C, which opens Johann Sebastian Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier . Since then, singer and composer Vincent Bouchot has had the idea of composing 23 Ave Maria out of the 23 other preludes in the Well-Tempered Clavier. Hence Metaclassique 's desire, shared with Hémisphère son, to collect covers of this matrix of Western art music, which Bach's very, very famous Prelude has become. Before joining Vincent Bouchot, we'll be chatting with Serge de Laubier, who plays the aforementioned Prelude on a Meta-Instrument he's specially developed. We'll also be talking to Pierre Boeswillwald, who assisted Pierre Schaeffer in the creation of his Bilude, a testamentary work that completes the Bidule , which, in 1950, took up Bach's Prelude . And to start things off, we're going to meet pianist Denis Chouillet: himself the composer of a score that takes the harmonics of Shostakovich's Prelude in C and puts them back into the movement of Bach's Prelude in C. Denis Chouillet recorded Je me souviens de do dièse majeur dans un prélude en do majeur de Jean-Sébastien Bach by Frédéric Lagnau. And to open this Metaclassical hour of "reluder", here is the Prelude in C composed by François Sarhan for pianist Antony Gray.

A Métaclassique programme produced and directed by David Christoffel, in partnership with Hémisphère son.
